UP: PM Narendra Modi’s trusted bureaucrat to join BJP | Lucknow News

LUCKNOW: Prime minister Narendra Modi‘s trusted bureaucrat AK Sharma, who took voluntary retirement as MSME secretary on Tuesday, is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Lucknow on Thursday.
It is being speculated ever since the 1988 batch IAS officer suddenly resigned on Tuesday that he might be one of the BJP candidates in the Vidhan Parishad polls in the state. Nominations for the polls are being filed till January 18 and BJP is sure to win 10 out of 12 seats falling vacant.
Sharma joined Modi as the secretary in October 2001 when the former took over as the Gujarat CM. He continued to work with him in the PMO from 2014 onwards as well and took over as the MSME secretary in April, 2020.
UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh confirmed that Sharma, who hails from eastern UP’s Mau district and belongs to Bhumihar caste, will join the party at 12 noon on Thursday.
